In reply to Sound of Text. This article although from 2020 is still about the latest ESA law in Florida. ESA owners are still protected in Florida as long as they have a valid ESA letter from a licensed healthcare professional.

I recently found out that Florida passed a new law regarding emotional support animals. As an ESA owner, I’m curious to know more about the changes and how they’ll affect me. Will the new law require me to provide more documentation or go through a specific process to keep my ESA status? I’m hoping the law will provide more clarity and protection for ESAs and their owners.

In reply to Jeremy. Landlords must accept valid ESA letters that are signed by licensed healthcare professionals. They cannot make up their own form requirements.

I asked my landlord about esa in flo. They wont accept signed letter from doctor. They want seperate doc signed by doctor stating the esa is required to live etc. is this normal?

You do not need to certify an ESA but you may need a renewed ESA letter, please see this link for more details: https://esadoctors.com/do-esa-letters-expire-how-to-renew/

ESAs are generally allowed in common areas where other tenants are allowed to be.

Do ESA’s need to be recertified on an annual basis?

Other than being in the pool, can the association restrict where an ESA goes as long as he is in the common areas with its owner?
