In reply to Marla Ortegren. The issue is that ESAs are not considered service dogs under law. This doesn't have to do with an enforcement issue. Service dogs are governed by the ADA which allows service dogs to generally enter public places. ESAs on the other hand have more limited rights for housing and air travel under the Fair Housing Act and the Air Carrier Access Act.

An emotional support animal for PTSD that is well trained and does not cause any trouble with other service dogs should have full access just like any other service dog. I do not agree with recent enforcement that ESA’s do not have full access. That increases the anxiety episodes the animal helps the PTSD sufferers with.

In reply to Denise Lopez. You do not need to carry an ESA letter with you at all times. You only need to submit it to your landlord or airline when you are requesting accommodation for your animal companion.

I have my own therapist which I was diagnosed with PTSD .Do I need to carry that letter with me 24/7 ?
