A general registration requirement for all dogs applies to all dogs, regardless of whether they are an ESA or not. However, there is no ESA-specific registration you need to comply with.

If my dog is registered as an emotional support animal do I still need to register in the county?

An emotional support dog is not a specific type of animal that can be purchased. Any dog can qualify as a emotional support animal as long as the owner gets a signed ESA letter from their licensed healthcare professional. We understand that people face very different financial circumstances, but we cannot recommend that anyone without the financial means to comfortably pay for the animal’s care adopt a dog at that stage of their life.

Hello, I have generalized anxiety disorder and am interested in having an emotional support dog. I am, however, on a limited income due to being on Social Security for my anxiety. I am wondering, therefore, if I would need to purchase my ESA or if one would be provided to me free of charge? I do of course have a budget that would allow for the purchase of the ESA’s food, but would I be responsible for the cost of his or her’s veterinary care? Veterinary care is likely very expensive and I probably wouldn’t be able to afford it. So this would essentially determine whether or not I would be able to go forward with seeking an emotional support dog. Thanks.

Fair Housing guidelines do not address neutering, but that would be a very unusual request.

Is that possible with you? I tried another one since I could not get in person (especially with coronavirus) and they accepted it for this year but need it to be local for 2021.
